History & Goal
  • Project SHINE started in 1997 at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • Recruit college students to teach English and help prepare elderly immigrants pass the Naturalization interview for U.S. Citizenship

Pre-Steps
  • 1. Student Pre-Service Survey
  • 2. 3-hour orientation (training)
  • 3. Contact EVC Service-Learning Program
  • 4. Fill out & Submit: a. Student enrollment application
    • b. Hold harmless agreement
    • c. Service agreement

  • Commit to a 2-hour service for 10 weeks
  • Assistant to an ESL instructor
  • Prepare the senior for the Naturalization interview for U.S. Citizenship
  • Practice oral/written test
