My Topic
  • I chose to research how the Internet has greatly enhanced means of communication for individuals world wide.
  • I was inspired by my overly dependence on the use of networking sites, email, as well as instant messaging for communicating better with friends, classmates, and especially family members.

My Thesis
  • Communicating with people might’ve been a troublesome ordeal before the Internet became astonishingly popular. In the past decades, we had to worry about costly phone bills when calling out of state, keeping up with writing letters that sometimes failed to be sent or delivered on time, or waiting for returned phone calls for days on end. Online communication has definitely eliminated these barriers.

Websites
  • A variety of different websites tremendously helped my research in providing data, definitions, and plenty insight on related content.

How Helpful Were They?
    • This website was the only website that provided me with numbers and data on just how much the Internet impacts worldwide.
    • Helped to make my point that communication resources are available for free and could explain the massive user population
  • http://www.webopedia.com/DidYouKnow/Internet/2005/internet_communications.aspasdg
    • This website was text based. It offered definitions as well as processing procedures for different types of internet communications (instant messaging, email, video conferencing, telephony, etc).
    • Strengthened one of my points: Not only does the Internet have advantages for communication, it offers a number of different ways to go about it.

    • It was actually written by the president of Bio Properties, Lou Nimkoff, who utilized this option and testified that it was extremely helpful, convenient, and a money saver.
    • Retrieved it through the Expanded Academic ASAP database from EVC library.

Information received from database
  • “Web conferencing technology is user-friendly and relatively cheap. It's easy to install, and only one person has to have the software--everyone else can log in for free. Major providers are WebEx (www.webex.com) and GoToMeeting (www.gotomeeting.com). Monthly charges are between $39 and $49, depending on the payment plan. Neither company has a setup fee.”
        • Lou Nimkoff, CPM
  • “With Web conferencing, in five minutes, I was able to get everyone online, looking at the same spreadsheet. We all started reviewing the numbers, making changes, and within a half hour we all agreed to go forward with the deal.”
        • Lou Nimkoff, CPM

Glimpse of article from Webopedia
  • “Like all technologies (and especially technology tied to the Internet), the way we can communicate online is constantly evolving . In this week's "Did You Know...?" article we'll take a look at some of the most popular forms of Internet-based communications.”
        • Vangie Beal
    • The article was thorough and in-depth and definitely aided my research by providing this type of information

My Conclusion
  • The Internet is ever evolving and emerging. Because of its dynamics, we are able to enjoy the conveniences and advantages of its products and amenities. Technology is the new face of society and the Internet, being expansive as it is, enables people all around the world to communicate together to share ideas, meet new people, connect with old friends, get work done, or to just vent to those willing to listen, in a faster and more expedient process.
