- Osteoarthritis is also known as Degenerative Joint Disease.

- Osteoarthritis is caused by
abnormal wearing of the cartilage that covers and acts as a cushion
inside joints and destruction or decrease of synovial fluid that
lubricates those joints.

- It is estimated that 80% of the
population will have radiographic evidence of OA by age 65, although
only 60% of those will show any symptoms
|
|

- Chronic pain and loss of mobility are the major symptoms of this
disease.
|

- Other signs are crackling sounds when bending the affected joint, and
swelling in the smaller joints.
|
|

- Knees, hips , lower back and neck are the most affected areas of this
disease.

- There is no current cure for osteoarthritis, but there are some
medications that can slow the progression of this disease.
- Glucosamine and Chondritine are two recommended supplements that might help.

- If patients have total immobility in their joints, then joint
replacement surgery is recommended.
- Other alternative medication is through Yoga, acupuncture, and
meditation.
