One of the most important things that a young person should do is be politically active, through my service I learned that you must make your voice heard if you truly want to make a change. I also learned that in order to make something happen, you need to stick around with positive people who influence you and encourage you.

With volunteering at FLY, I learned tasks like HR, interviewing applicants, and talking to and communicating with others. By doing this, I learned that there are many people that'll help you and mentor you and all you do is ask. I also felt really good about myself after doing this. Volunteering for the good cause and helping others is something that I will definitely do in the future. I really did feel great and I only wish there would be more than 20 hours.

Volunteering at Next Door Solutions gave me an opportunity to explore career options. It made me feel part of community. Through Service Learning I also learned that everyone has a story. Even though our lives are going to dead ends sometimes, there will always be an exit.
EVC Student – Fall 2017Next Door Solutions
As I volunteered for a city council candidate, I learned the importance of meeting people where they are at by canvassing door to door. I was able to feel comfortable with talking to people of different ages and ethnicities as well as listening intentionally to their concerns. I learned that politics are important in deciding decisions for the community. I learned the importance of being represented by a woman who understand minorities and their issues. I also learned to facilitate the experience for other volunteers by sharing my own experience.

This experience has touched my life in measures unexplainable. My service was well accepted and that comforts me. I cried the last week before completing my time at the Alzheimer Center. I grew bonds with the staff members as well as the patients/clients. I am forever grateful and blessed to have been a part of such an awesome organization! I'm glad I took this course.

EVC Student – Summer 2017EVC DSP
Volunteering for Service-Learning and Public Service center is one of the best decision I made this semester. Firstly, I had the chance to meet with adorable students in the DSP department to help them with their learning. Adding to that, I learn to be more patient and understand how to put and organize my explanation clearly to the students. Moreover, I made friends with more people, become more open-minded, and had opportunities to review my knowledge toward many subjects.

I'm so glad when I had a chance to prepare and serve for Vietnamese-American Community on Tet Festival. I learned how to share love with seniors and children, how to set up the festival event. I hope I have many chances to join many community events in the future.

I volunteer because I wanted to help my community to be a better place. Furthermore, I learned a lot about me as a person and what I can and cannot do. Since I wanted to be a pharmacist, the event helps me build a much stronger communication skills.

I like to volunteer and serve the community. Doing some fun events for community is what I enjoy, and in the meantime I learn a lot about how to prepare for an event and learn how to work with others as a team. In fact, I have more friends from those activities.
The reason why I volunteered was because of a project that I needed to do for a class, but I feel like this experience has also benefitted me as a person. Knowing that I have made a positive impact in the student's lives by improving their reading skills makes me extremely happy. While I thoroughly enjoyed this experience, I do not believe it has changed my career goals; however, I now know that I am capable of working with kids and that I am a better teacher than I originally thought I was.

The Service at Andrew Hill High School, provided by Evergreen Valley Service- Learning & Public Service prepares materials and mentality for my upcoming career in education. Hands-on experience and vivid observation envisions myself regarding teacher-student relationship, school activities, and, most importantly, appropriateness for lesson building for high school students' knowledge and awareness.

I decided to participate in volunteering because I want to do more in the community and meet new people. I was able to make new friends during the volunteer and spoke to great advisors. I was able to meet people that could help me through my science classes in Evergreen. I decided to continue volunteering Kelley Park because it's a great place to volunteer in. this opportunity made me become more open to others and more talkative.

To be honest, I volunteered to help at AACI for extra credit, but I was glad to work there at the end. For me, I always love to help other in needs, but because I am a shy person so I did not volunteer often. When I was helping at the place, there was a bit of misunderstand but it was alright. Lastly, I would love to volunteer and help in any way I can for the sake of the community we lived in.
EVC Student- Summer 2016Asian American for Community Involvement
I volunteered for Youth Development Services Program at Asian American for Community Involvement. I like to work with children and I worked with almost twenty-five young students. We were discussing about social ills such as steaming, beer, drugs, and gambling in class. We played together, we learned together. I learned many things when I worked with them such as patience, social skills, and creativity. I improved my language skills pronunciation when I was talking with them. I was excited and happy when helping someone in the community.
I volunteer because I want to improve myself as well as the situation of other people that are less fortunate than me. The learning services had helped me both mentally and physically. I hope that I will become a better person than I was before.
I would like to volunteer but I did not have a chance. Now, because of this class, I can volunteer to help children and youth. It means a lot to me when I can help other people and get to know many people. This community service help me improve my communication skill. I play games with kids, help them fill out paper. It's really fun to spend time with those kids. It also good for my career in the future, because my career required to volunteer a lot.
I signed up to volunteer to meet a lot of people and I wanted to share my free time to the community. Community service helped me a lot because my career need to communicate to other people. Meeting new people can overcome my shyness and learned other skills that I can apply to my learning.

I loved volunteering at the Casseu Elementary School. I volunteered due to the class requirement, but I would've loved to volunteer even if it was not needed for the class. It meant something important for me. It wasn't just me trying to finish my hours. It was something for me to learn from and use in my actual career. The community service has helped me a lot toward my career goals. I plan to work with elementary school kids so this was a perfect way for me to pick up ideas on what a teacher does and goes through on a daily basis at school and in a class.

I started to volunteer for my nutrition course. This was my very first time volunteering anywhere. I had no idea how much I would enjoy it. I knew I needed to start volunteering for my career in health care so I saw this as a great opportunity to help me grow and help others. My favorite part about the whole time I volunteered was how many sweet elders I got to meet and help. It was so nice being able to hear their stories and knowledge they passed on to me. Basically I saw how much joy they got from the little things in life and it made me very appreciative of my elders. I loved this experience and would love to continue volunteering!

I volunteered to help the community to speak English. Helping people is also a way to help myself as I can practice to use my English vocabularies I learnt. It helped me to think directly in English. I can improve my pronunciation through small talks. I felt good as I had chances to gain my confidence when I had to present/ teach in front of a large group of people. This would help me in the job interview later on in the future.

Growing up as a woman in a household where gender determined whether you washed the dishes or took out the trash, made me wonder who established these informal rules that almost every family followed. Volunteering with AAVW has provided me with opportunities that not only has empowered me, but has empowered other women as well. This service learning experience provided me with the necessary preparation and skill that I will need for my future career such as time management, professionalism and how to negotiate for a raise.
EVC Student- Spring 2016The American Association of University Women
I volunteered because I would like to see in real life how boys and girls are raised differently, which leads to the differences between men and women. Through volunteering to be a tutor for first grade kids, I had a chance to verify what I had learned in class. My major is financing; I chose it before I took this class and did community service. In fact, this service hadn't impacted much on my career/ transfer goals since I already set my goals. However, it does helps me reinforce my decisions for my future career.

I volunteered to help spread awareness on sexual assault prevention. I did this because it is a very important topic to me because I, myself, have been sexually assaulted. This meant more to me than just a project for a class, I'm glad I could help spread awareness. This helped me with public speaking and being able to go up to random people, my future career will require me to do a lot of this,
EVC Student- Spring 2016
The reason why I volunteered is because had always loved helping children and people in general. In high school, I volunteered twice for the Walden West Community and that was a fun thing to do. Helping the main supervisors out with eighty children and walking through the forest was a fun experience. Volunteering in a community was about getting out of your comfort zone and helping others. I'm here to study psychology and this experience has helped with my experience in young women.
EVC Student- Spring 2016Eating Disorder Resource Center
I volunteered at EDRC because I wanted to better understand why eating disorders start and how to prevent or cope with one. Volunteering here was an eye opener and helped me gain my knowledge about the severity of eating disorders. I'm glad I was able to help spread the word about EDRC and their free support groups.
I volunteered because sexual assault is a part of my identity. It meant a lot to me to go out there and put some good meaning into other's lives. It helped my career by just having a voice and speaking my mind into others. Also it helped just because I like helping people out and I did that by giving out information. Sexual assault is not a joke and is always a part of me that I cannot change. Education is important. Educate. Empower. Change. I am a survivor.

I pick Sacred Heart Community because I was once in a situation where I could not provide myself the basic needs such as food and shelter. I wanted to remind myself where I came from as a motivation to keep going to school. I was able to start a new chapter of my life, but I never want to forget where I came from. Because of that situation, I became who I am today.
EVC Student- Spring 2016Sacred Heart Community Service
I've always wanted to volunteer in some ways to help seniors, and I finally had an opportunity through this service learning project offered in my psychology class. Growing up, I've always volunteered with my church's leadership group where I found joy and happiness being able to help others. As school and work started taking over my schedule, I didn't have much time to volunteer. Therefore, this opportunity meant a lot to me.
EVC Student- Spring 2016Alzheimer's Activity Center
I volunteered because I wanted to get involved within the community and I fell that by helping the community grow, I am also helping myself grow as a person. Community service was an opportunity that I felt would benefit me in the future, even though it may not be clear to me as to how it will benefit me right now. For community service, it added a lot more to my resume and it would help stand out among other students like me that are math majors. Any potential employers or other people would most likely find it valuable to have someone with prior work experiences, leadership skills, and various other skills or traits gained or enhanced by community service.
I really enjoyed my tutoring experience. I found it rewarding to help others who are struggling in Math as well as helping me keep my skills in the lower levels of sharp. The students in the Math and Science Resource Center, where I volunteered, were eager to learn and pleasant to work with. I hope to continue to tutor and am considering a career in teaching.

I volunteered because I wanted to give back to the community. I don't have much money to give, so I decided to give some of my time. My family had receive help from churches giving away food. I am thankful for the aid this community provided us.
I decided to volunteer because it was something I always wanted to do in my life. And since the teacher told me about the opportunity to help people in this "Loaves & Fishes" community dining room, I felt very happy. It took me a few days to realize that I was in the right place, helping people in need and helping the community was a successful and rewarding experience for me. Even though this community service is not related to my career, was a very good personal learning experience. I am glad I had the chance and meet very interesting people from different backgrounds and cultures.

I decided to volunteer because I have always lived close to the Boys and Girls Club and I wanted to experience how it was liked. Volunteering at Boys and Girls club means a lot to me because the staff and clients who attend the organization help me understand that anyone can make a positive difference. When I was younger I didn't have the opportunity to attend the club as a client or as a volunteer and I totally regret it! They offer programs that help kids with their homework and activities like sport which benefits them to be active rather than being home watching TV. Service learning overall benefits the club and me to grow socially and help to improve kids' knowledge.
EVC Student- Spring 2016Boys and Girls Club
I volunteered because someone close to me was sexually assaulted. This community service allowed me to give back to the community and to other individuals who have been sexually assaulted.
I decided to volunteer in the Hunting ground project because I believe it is disgusting that 1 in 5 girls in college are being college and that we constantly are worried about being safe and not going out alone when men are not being taught not to rape. This project has helped me realized how uneducated college students are in this subject and now our effort is helping to open up eyes of more people to realize how big of an issue this subject really is.
Volunteering has always been a passion of mine, whether it was for church, for school or any other agency it always feels good to give back to the community. Right now I am majoring in child development in hopes of one day in the near future, I will be able to work with children. Volunteering at the Boys and Girls club has help me experience what it's like to work with children of another race. I was asked to teach a traditional Vietnamese dance that way the kids will be able to experience another culture besides their own. The amount of time and effort the children put into learning this dance make me very proud of them for not only trying their best but for stepping out of their cultural boundaries. I am honored that I was able to be part of volunteering for the Boys and Girls club and that I was able to experience working with open minded children. This is what I aim for, to open up their mind set outside of their comfort zone that way each child could fully understand how cultural our world is.
EVC Student- Spring 2016Boys and Girls Club of Silicon Valley
I volunteered because I thought it would be a great learning experience to work with Alzheimer clients. It meant a lot to me because I was able to form close relationships with the clients and feel like I was bettering their lives while simultaneously, they were doing the same for me. I also got to see the struggle/hardships of the condition and I learned the best ways to help get them through those times.
I enjoyed volunteer because I love working with children. As a volunteer/adult children look up to you as their role model in their life that will impact them in many different ways. I enjoyed playing, drawing, counting, dancing and reading with them. It means a lot giving back to the community and helping children.

Every volunteer session provided a wealth of insight into the field of education. I will volunteer again in hopes of learning and evolving in my pursuit of becoming a teacher.

I am positive of going back to volunteer again. This volunteering process has helped me to understand better the needs of our population.
EVC Student- Spring 2015Sacred Heart Community Service
I would gladly volunteer again because it was a fun learning experience and all the children had very much intelligence and they were cooperative. There is not many improvements I can suggest but to have many more volunteers for the children.
EVC Student- Spring 2015Boys & Girls Club of Silicon Valley
I would love to volunteer again. I loved being able to make a difference in a child's life. Helping them learn new skills to help them read better was a joy to do. I also learned skills on how to help my children.

I love working with youth and like to feel like I'm making a difference. Even coming once a week for a couple hours really makes a change in the students' abilities and attitude. I would volunteer again if I have time.
I am definitely going to continue volunteering at Millard McCollam Elementary School because I gained a lot of experience and insight into the world of education. The Service-Learning experience was amazing and I would change nothing.

I would love to volunteer for this 3rd grade class again. The students are adorable and I learned so much from the teacher. She taught me how to make students behave in a better environment which influence them to gain more positive rewards.
EVC Student- Fall 2014Dorsa Elementary School
I am very likely to volunteer again. I enjoyed helping the kids, getting experience from the teacher. It's nice to know in advanced how many career would be like. I also believe it would be better to volunteer in different grades, not just one.
EVC Student- Fall 2014Dorsa Elementary
I would volunteer again because volunteering in the Service-Learning helped me learned a lot of things and it is let me know what people need help in difference circumstances. However, volunteering is not only help people who need help, it is also help my own self gain experiences.
