Counselors are available to assist students with clarifying educational and vocational objectives, establishing appropriate academic and career plans and resolving social and personal problems.
Academic/Educational Counseling
Counselors help students plan their programs of study to establish and reach their educational goals. Counselors offer assistance in academic planning and appropriate course selection to ease completion of EVC and/or transfer requirements. Students are encouraged to meet with counselors on a regular basis and to seek advice from both professors in the department of their major interest and the Transfer/Career Center. The Center is stocked with transfer related information, bulletins, brochures, university and college catalogues and hosts representatives from universities and colleges to assist students on a scheduled basis.
Career/Vocational Counseling
Counselors are available to assist students explore their life goals and identify their career options. This assistance may include helping students evaluate their aptitudes and interests through the use of tests and interviews. Counselors work in conjunction with the resources found in the EVC Transfer/Career Center. The Center houses the latest information on career trends, career oriented magazines, books and brochures, videos, a computerized career selection system (EUREKA) and access to the World Wide Web for college and career searches.
Personal/Social Counseling
Counselors are available to students who need assistance with problems which may be affecting their academic performance. Counselors work with students to alleviate their relationship, health or emotional concerns. Matters discussed are held in strict confidence by the counselor. When appropriate, students may be referred to other professional services on campus or in the community.
