Disabilities Support Program (DSP)

The Disabilities Support Program (DSP) provides support services and instructional programs for students with disabilities attending Evergreen Valley College. The program promotes student independence and works to make campus classes, facilities, and services accessible to students with disabilities.

Supportive Services: A variety of supportive services are available, including specialized counseling services, priority registration, interpreters for the deaf, tutors, note-takers, test facilitation (including extended time, and use of adapted computer hardware, software and equipment), and mobility aids. The DSP has an extensive array of specialized equipment, hardware and software that can be used by and are often loaned out to our students in an effort to accommodate educational limitations.

Special Classes: Several instructional programs are offered, including classes in basic skills, listening skills, memory strategies, and adaptive physical education. The High Tech Center provides classes in adaptive access to computers, word processing systems and computer aided instruction (CAI) in basic skill areas. Individualized Instruction (II210) is a zero unit zero credit course where students receive one-on-one and small group tutoring in basic skills, study skills and in academic subject matter.  Tutors are specially trained and supervised by DSP faculty and staff and utilize special techniques and strategies.  In order to register for the DSP’s II210, a student must receive a written referral from an instructor, general counselor, DSP Coordinator, or from the DSP Counselor.

Eligibility: Students do not necessarily need to have a disability to enroll in classes offered by the Disabilities Support Program. However, in order to receive ongoing supportive services, students must have a documented disability that results in functional limitations that hinder performance on campus.

Assessments are available within the DSP for students who have not been previously or recently tested to determine whether or not they have a specific learning or speech and language disability.
