Welcome to the ESL Lab
Students enrolled in ESL courses can benefit from the ESL Lab offered in the Language Arts Center. The ESL Lab courses are designed to provide assistance with skills taught in the ESL classes. The ESL 100L Writing Seminar is required for all students enrolled in ESL 91 and ESL 302 and counts as 10% of the course grade.
While working in the Lab, each student will maintain a folder containing the assignment sheet, student record sheet, and work completed. The student is responsible for tabulating time spent in the lab by using the current time-keeping system. A record card is kept by the ESL Lab Instructional Assistant to record progress on each student. Credit is determined on the number of modules completed. Students can earn from 0.5 to 2.0 units of credit. Most students earn 1.0 credit, which is equivalent to approximately 45 hours in the lab. The ESL Instructional Assistants and the ESL Lab professors together review all folders throughout the semester. Then the ESL Lab Assistant meets with the Lab professors to determine a grade based on the completion of the modules in order to recommend CR or NC to the professor of record.
