Basic Nursing Concepts (Nursing 110) is no longer a prerequisite to the nursing program, and has been cancelled for the spring 2009 session.
This course is recommended for students interested in a career in registered nursing. The course focuses on the basic concepts which form the foundation of nursing practice, including nursing history, nursing process, communication, legal-ethical principles of practice, socio-cultural factors, and an introduction to the scope of nursing within the health care system. It is designed to provide a foundation of basic nursing care including vital signs, body mechanics, bed making, hygiene and environmental safety. Application of these skills will occur in the nursing program resource center.
Requirements for this course include a physical examination to determine essential capabilities. The prerequisites include anatomy and physiology. Microbiology can be taken before or during nursing 110.
