Program Units

How many units are in a program?

The units required for academic programs vary due to the different levels of preparation. Most students follow one or more of the following program levels.

Certificate of Proficiency/Certificate of Specialization

Certificates are comprised of all the occupational education courses that make up the major in the program.  Certificates range from 15 to 40 units.

A.A. or A.S. Degree

This degree is attained at the Community College level. Evergreen Valley College requires a minimum of 60 semester units.

B.A./B.S., or other Bachelor’s Degree

This degree is a 4-year degree attained at the university/college level.  This degree requires about 120 to 136 semester units.

M.A., M.S., M.B.A., or other Master’s Degree

This degree is the first level beyond the Bachelor’s degree.  It is comprised of 30 to 60 semester units beyond the Bachelor’s degree.

Ph.D., Ed.D., M.D., or other Doctorate Degree

This is the highest level of academic or professional degrees.
