Bio

Ambica Gill is a tenured Professor of Communication Studies whose primary academic specialization is in argumentation, critical thinking, and public advocacy. She has been a long-term resident of the South Bay, earned her degree from Evergreen Valley College, and holds a Master’s in Communication Studies with a focus on organizational and business communication from San José State University.

Returning to EVC as faculty, she is deeply committed to supporting the next generation of students in the community that first inspired her academic journey.

Professor Gill believes deeply in the transformative power of education and is dedicated to cultivating confident, ethical, and empowered student communicators. Her courses emphasize evidence-based reasoning, structured argumentation, public speaking competency, and respectful dialogue across differences. She places student success at the center of her teaching, prioritizing mentorship, inclusive learning practices, and accessible academic support. She is especially passionate about helping students find their voice, build confidence, and develop communication skills they can apply academically, professionally, and within their communities.

Professor Gill proudly serves as faculty in Evergreen Valley College’s ASPIRE Program, where she works closely with Asian American and Pacific Islander students to promote academic achievement, leadership development, cultural affirmation, and a strong sense of belonging. She also serves as Co-Advisor of the Speech and Debate Club, supporting students in developing advocacy skills, engaging in ethical argumentation, and participating in competitive and campus-wide speaking events. Additionally, she has held institutional leadership roles across the San José Evergreen Community College District, including four years as Chair of Staff Development, advancing faculty professional growth and equity-centered teaching practices.

Deeply connected to her community, Professor Gill actively supports local educational and cultural initiatives in Gilroy and is committed to uplifting students both in and beyond the classroom. When not teaching, she enjoys performing as a vocalist in a local music ensemble and spending time with her family. Her commitment to student empowerment, community engagement, and inclusive scholarship underscores her work as an educator and mentor.
