Student/Institutional Learning Outcomes (SLOs/ILOs)

Student Learning Outcomes

SLOs identify the knowledge, skills and attitudes that students will be able to demonstrate as a result of their engagement in a particular course, program and collegiate experiences at Evergreen Valley College.  All SLOs need to be assessed at least once every year.  Course level SLOs are available through course syllabi and the official course outline of record (curriQunet). Program level SLOs are listed under "degrees and certificates" in the catalog.

  2. Review the appropriate CurriQunet training video (link to Grace’s SLO Video) or attend a CurriQunet training workshop.
  3. Inform the dean that the training requirement has been completed.
  4. Ask the dean to email the Curriculum Coordinator for access.
  • Look for communication from the Curriculum Coordinator who will email access information directly to the faculty member.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What should I do if I am an Adjunct with Full-time Faculty in my department?
If you have a full-time faculty member in your department, you should work with them to complete your SLO Assessment reports.  Ideally, you should complete your assessment on a separate document and send it to your lead full-timer, who will submit it on your behalf.  We recommend that you use this Excel Spreadsheet (link to the most recent blank excel spreadsheet) to gather your data.  More information on how to use the spreadsheet effectively can be found on the SLOAC Canvas shell.

  2. What should I do if I am an Adjunct without Full-time Faculty members in my department?
If you do not have a full-time Faculty member in your department, reach out to your dean to see if you should submit SLOs for your department.  If they tell you to do so, follow the above steps to gain access to Curriqunet.  From there, complete and submit your SLOs on Curriqunet.

Institutional/General Education Learning Outcomes (ILOs)

ILOs are knowledge, skills and abilities a student is expected to leave an institution with as a result of a student's total experience. The faculty and staff at Evergreen Valley College believe that General Education (GE) Outcomes represent a common core of outcomes for the majority of students transferring or receiving degrees; therefore, Evergreen created ILOs encompassing GE components, as well as student support service areas.

SLO Assessment Committee

The purpose of the Student Learning Outcome Assessment Committee (SLOAC) is to oversee and guide the college process for writing/incorporating SLOs and assessment across the curriculum and programs. The committee shapes the college's approach to assessment by providing a common assessment language through SLO Assessment Plans and the standardized assessment reporting templates.  The committee strives to support a campus culture of assessment by encouraging assessment dialogue and sharing best practices to improve student learning and integrate results into college planning.
