Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC)
Campus Tour | High School Students | Transfer Students | Frequently Asked Questions
| Transfer students have the option of completing the IGETC. Completion of IGETC permits a student to transfer from a community college to a campus in either the CSU or UC system without the need, after transfer, to take additional lower-division, general education courses to satisfy campus general education requirements. Students undecided about which system, UC or CSU, or which UC campus to transfer to will find IGETC an advantageous way to meet general education requirements. There are 10 UC campuses in the California University System. | |

It should be noted that completion of the IGETC is not a requirement for transfer to CSU or UC, nor is it the only way to fulfill the lower-division general education requirements of the CSU or UC prior to transfer. Depending on a student's major and field of interest, the student may find it advantageous to take courses fulfilling the CSU's general education requirements or those of the UC campus or college to which the student plans to transfer. For instance, Revelle and Roosevelt colleges at UC San Diego will not accept IGETC due to the uniqueness of their general education programs. Also, students with a high-unit major such as Nursing, Engineering, Liberal Studies (Education), and the Business Administration major at UC Berkeley should not follow the IGETC. All IGETC requirements must be completed prior to transfer and each course must be completed with a grade of "C" or better. It is very important for students to remember to get IGETC certified by the Admissions and Records Office at Evergreen Valley College before transferring in order not to be held to any additional lower-division general education requirements after transfer. |
