The FRESH Assistance Center
You will hear the term FRESH on campus often. So what does it mean? FRESH stands for Free Resources and Education to Stop Hunger and Homelessness. The FRESH Assistance Center is your one-stop-shop to receive information and access on and off-campus basic needs resources.
We are located across from the Admissions and Records Office located inside of AR-120. Stop by to receive information and assistance!
Assistance includes, but is not limited to:
- Information and Assistance applying for CalFresh
- Appointment times with our FRESH Assistance Case Manager
- Information and Assistance with SparkPoint Financial Services
- Information regarding on-campus Food and Clothing Resources
- Scheduled Appointment times to see a Mental Health Counselor
Our goal is to provide an easy way for students to access various on-campus basic needs services and resources.
FRESH Assistance Application
This form is used to request assistance with on- and off-campus resources such as: housing, food, mental health, childcare, transportation needs, emergency funding, county services, and programs, and other basic needs services and resources.
What to expect after submitting this form
- Submitting this application does not automatically guarantee your eligibility for all services applied for. Upon completion of this form, you will receive a confirmation message indicating that we have received your application.
- Your application is then assigned to a designated FRESH team member who will outreach to you to schedule a 20-30 minute meeting
- The purpose of the meeting is to become more familiar with your situation, connect you with additional resources based on your situation, as well as collect information to assess for eligibility of services that you are requesting.
- Once your meeting is complete the information is reviewed by your FRESH team member, you will be contacted via email about the status of your application and what services you are eligible for.

Did you know that over 50% of students at Evergreen Valley College have reported being food insecure within the past month?
The Evergreen Valley College F.R.E.S.H (Free Resources and Education to Stop Hunger/Homelessness) Market was established to provide immediate food needs of EVC students by providing a variety of non-perishable food items. The F.R.E.S.H Market provides grab-and-go options (granola bars, microwavable soups, noodles, etc.) and other options ( boxed cereal, canned goods, etc.) that may require students to prepare. A limited number of grocery gift cards and cafeteria food vouchers are available, while items last. The market is maintained in partnership with the Office of Student Life, the Associated Student Government, Second Harvest of Silicon Valley, and New Seasons Market.
How To Access The F.R.E.S.H Market
Students must be enrolled in at least 1 credit to be eligible to receive items from the F.R.E.S.H Market. The F.R.E.S.H Market is located on the first floor of the Gullo I Student Center in Room 114 directly near the ATM machines.

For Financial Donations, please visit the San Jose Evergreen Community College Foundation website. Under "I want to support" Emergency Funds-EVC Students. Financial Donations help to ensure the purchase of grocery gift cards for students, the purchase of special diet items not donated such as vegan, halal, and Kosher items, and provide one-time emergency grants to students in need.
Assembly Bill 1995 was signed in 2016 by Governor Brown. This Assembly Bill authorizes any student enrolled in a California Community College that is facing a financial or housing crisis the opportunity to shower in the locker room facilities maintained by the college without the requirement of enrollment in a physical education (PE) course or athletic department program.
In order to access the showers students must currently be enrolled in coursework, have paid their enrollment fees, and be in good standing with the San Jose Evergreen Community College District.
Showers are offered Monday-Thursday from 8:00am-4:00pm and Fridays from 8:00am-12:00pm inside of the PE Building. If needed, students may pick up essential item such as soap, towels, and shampoo from the EVC C.A.R.E Closet located inside of Gullo I-106.
The CalFresh Program, federally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), issues monthly electronic benefits that can be used to buy most foods at many markets and food stores. The CalFresh Program helps to improve the health and well-being of qualified households and individuals by providing them a means to meet their nutritional needs. Students may apply for CalFresh inside of the EVC F.R.E.S.H Market during normal operational hours of Monday-Thursday from 12:00pm-4:00pm.
Open CalFresh Enrollment also occurs every second and fourth Thursday of the month inside of Central Green between 9:30am-1:00pm.
Need extra money for food?
Second Harvest Food Distribution.
In partnership with Second Harvest Silicon Valley, EVC offers a FREE food distribution that is open to all currently enrolled students and community members. The distribution takes place on the First and Third Friday of every month inside Parking Lot 1 from 9:30 am-11:00 am. Students can access Parking Lot 1 through the San Felipe entrance of campus.
Students and community members must RSVP in advance. Students and community members can RSVP for Future Distributions
Please note: The RSVP list will close at 5:00 pm the week before the Food Distribution. Students needing delivery due to lack of transportation can email email@example.com to arrange food delivery, if available.
EVC FRESH Farmer's Market Days
In collaboration with Second Harvest of Silicon Valley, join EVC every second and fourth Thursday of the month for our EVC FRESH Farmer's Market Day from 9:30 am-1:00 pm inside of Central Green.
The FRESH Farmer's Market Day is a free farmer's market where students can receive an assortment of fresh produce, milk, eggs, and other items. In addition, CalFresh Student Ambassadors are stationed throughout the event and are ready to answer questions about CalFresh, student exemption eligibility, or provide assistance with completing your CalFresh application. Students who participate in the EVC FRESH Farmer's Market Days and complete a CalFresh application on-site, also receive coupons to use at participating farmer's markets within Santa Clara County (while supplies last).
The C.A.R.E Clothing Closet.
The C.A.R.E (Career Apparel and Resources for Educational Success) Closet was established in 2018 by the Associated Student Government. The C.A.R.E Closet was established to provide immediate basic need items to EVC students. The closet is maintained by the Associated Student Government as part of their annual budget. The closet is located in Gullo I-106.
How to Donate.
The Associated Student Government is available to accept donations in order to keep the shelves of the C.A.R.E Closet stocked. Faculty and Staff can exemplify this commitment in public statements (such as course syllabi or program newsletter), in our daily work by addressing the structural poverty that created this basic needs security crisis (such as serving on committees, volunteering at basic needs events, and hosting service-learning opportunities), and by using data and evidence to drive our efforts to reduce food and housing insecurity to impact as many of our students as possible.

About the Associated Student Government Emergency Fund
We know that challenging times may impact the success for some of our EVC Students. As such, the Evergreen Valley College Associated Student Government (ASG) has set aside funding to offer a limited amount of emergency funds to assist our most vulnerable students to assist with basic needs resources and emergency situations.
Quick Facts About The Funding
The Evergreen Valley College Associated Student Government-Student Emergency Fund is intended to provide immediate financial assistance to Evergreen Valley College students involved in a catastrophic or emergency situation involving circumstances which are sudden, unexpected and/or affect a student's ability to function as a successful student. Examples include, but are not limited to an accident, illness, travel for a funeral, fire damage or need for temporary housing.
The fund is entirely supported by the Associated Student Government
The funding does not need to be repaid; however, students are only eligible for one fund per calendar year (365 days).
The funding request cannot exceed $500.
The Associated Student Government reserves the right to deny, partially fund, or fully fund the requested amount. Due to the limited amount of funds available, there is a possibility that some applications will not be funded. ASG is committed to funding applications for our most vulnerable student populations as a priority including students that are currently homeless, facing homelessness, and are first time applicants.
Students must complete the screening form and application in entirety.
Students must provide proof of current enrollment in a minimum of six units. Returning students must have a minimum 2.0 GPA.
Students must provide documentation of stated emergency such as a utilities bill, eviction letter, etc. ASG reserves the right to deny applications deemed as non-catastrophic, non-emergency and/or a foreseen event.
Students may only apply for and receive funding once a full calendar year. Students who have previously received funding must wait 365 days from the date of first application before becoming eligible for another grant.
Students who owe more than $100 to the San Jose Evergreen Community College District will be ineligible to receive funding.
Students with a student disciplinary record will be ineligible to receive funding.
In order to apply for the emergency funding students should follow the below steps:
Download and complete the screening form and application. The application is completely fillable so there is no need to print out the form and hand write.
Once you have completed the application, email the application and requested documentation (see above under eligibility requirements) to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Once received applications will be reviewed by the committee. Applicants will be notified via email within 48 hours whether their application has been fully approved, partially approved, or not approved at this time.
If approved, students will receive an email notification with a Check Request Form. Students must complete the first half of the document and select their choice of receiving their funds via a check mailed to their home address listed on the application or via a bank wire to their bank account. In order to receive a bank wire, students must provide their bank account number, routing number, and identify whether the listed bank account is a checking or savings account.
Students will receive approved funds anywhere between 3-7 days depending on the selection of mail delivery, or, if selected, the accuracy of the banking information provided.
