Meet the Professors

Professor Mia Vodanovich is a writer, educator, podcaster, and semi-avid ABBA fan from the South Bay. She has taught English at EVC since 2018 and specializes in composition, critical thinking, and creative writing. Their work focuses on amplifying student voices through instruction as well as promotion of EVC’s women’s history month celebrations and student-led literary magazine Leaf by Leaf. When Mia’s not in the classroom, you can find her catching up on bad movies, playing D&D, and dusting off their cleats on the softball diamond.

Counselor Jilian Gomez was born in San Francisco, raised on the Peninsula, and has been with EVC since 2025! [Put me on some good food spots you like].
 
Some of her interests are cooking [I made mole de pollo to perfection this past summer], attending shows [concerts, comedy, movies], sporting events [tell me your teams!], and loves and adores pets [I had my dog for 17 years!]. Jilian also enjoys collecting and listening to some vinyls [currently looking for the new Larry June one].
 
Jilian is a proud first-generation educator/professional [who hella struggled in college] with over a decade of experience serving both K–12 and higher education. Jilian earned my B.A. in Communication Disorders (with a minor in Special Education) from San Francisco State  and an M.A. in Counseling Guidance (LPCC eligible) from San José State University, where Jilian also published a on thesis, Amplifying Testimonios of Latino Male Student Success.
 
From Jilian: “Above all, my passion is supporting and uplifting students. When we meet, I’m here to guide you through challenges, but also to celebrate your wins -whether it’s passing a test, making positive changes for your growth, or reaching a personal milestone. Whatever it is, I am here to help!”

headshot in front of the plazaProfessor Parran Vanniasegaram has been a full-time faculty member at Evergreen Valley College since 2013.
 
He regularly teaches statistics, multivariable calculus, and differential equations. He recently helped the Math Department comply with AB 1111 by updating the Statistics course outline to align with the statewide Statistics template and with AB 1705 by creating a calculus corequisite course. (A few years ago, he designed a statistics corequisite course after the passage of AB 705.)
 
He has co-led a Statistics working group on campus since Fall 2022 and has prepared students for the AMATYC Contest since Spring 2015. During the 2022-2023 academic year, EVC placed first in the entire country in the contest.
 
headshotAs a dedicated faculty member, Professor Teck Ky’s most significant contribution to the success of EVC’s Mathematics Program is the consistently high retention rate in gateway courses—specifically Precalculus, Calculus, and Statistics.

By fostering an inclusive, supportive learning environment and implementing evidence-based instructional strategies, Professor Ky has helped diverse student cohorts persist and excel through challenging STEM and quantitative pathways.

He has especially enjoyed working with students in these courses, using DESMOS, STATDISK, and Excel, and has built strong rapport with them through this hands-on, technology-driven approach. In less than one year, he has observed several students’ progress from Precalculus to Calculus. He takes great pride in helping expand students’ insight and understanding of the essential role that Statistics and Calculus play in academic study and real-world problem-solving.

Using his advanced expertise in statistics and mathematics, along with extensive experience teaching community college students, Professor Ky has helped develop effective statistics and mathematics courses for EVC students. He is committed to continuing the expansion of EVC’s statistics program to meet the evolving needs of universities, corporations, businesses, and the broader community.
